Breakfast favourites reworked: the savoury yogurt granola bowl

Does the thought of a yoghurt granola breakfast conjure up a picture of a sweet, fruit filled, honey drizzled bowl for you? Think again!

I’m a big fan of savoury breakfasts. They keep my blood sugar nice and stable. They also keep me full and going for hours. No spikes = no huge dips = constant energy. It’s a very simple hack to more stable energy levels throughout the day, healthier glucose metabolism, weight loss, etc. I’m planning to do a series on blood sugar at some point but in the meantime, check out @glucosegoddess her super informative page for the science behind this and easy to understand visual illustrations.

I know I’m not alone in my love for savoury breakfasts but I often see that people struggle with creativity, beyond toast with savoury toppings or eggs. Now there’s nothing wrong with that but who doesn’t love a bit of variation?

I love to show that you can turn pretty much any breakfast favourite into a savoury dish. Examples are:

  • Oats

  • Chia pudding

  • Pancakes

  • Waffles

  • Muffins

  • Smoothies

And of course everyone’s favourite: the yogurt granola bowl!

Boundless do these amazing nut and seed mixes that are sprouted (this process removes some of the anti-nutrients that can be hard to digest and cause damage to gut lining and inflammatory responses in some individuals), gently baked on low temperature (nuts and seeds should not be exposed to high temperatures as this causes the fats to oxidise and go rancid), and coated in nothing but legit ingredients (no industrial oils, no maltodextrin, no nasties). I used the turmeric & smoked pepper mix here but the tamari & aleppo or cayenne & rosemary would work very well too.

What’s your favourite savoury breakfast? What sweet breakfast favourites have you reworked into a savoury favourite? Let me know in the comments!
